Often, times like these lead you to step back, rest, reset and return with renewed force. The Farm at San Benito in the Philippines felt like the perfect place to retreat for healing and transformation.
Located in the lush foothills of Batangas, about ninety minutes from Manila, The Farm at San Benito is not your typical wellness resort. It is a fully integrated medical and holistic sanctuary that bridges luxury and science with the ancient wisdom arising from nature’s bounty. Spread across 51 hectares of coconut groves, gardens, and semi-wild forest, it offers a kind of beauty that calms the nervous system at first sight. The moment my car entered the property, the air itself felt different.. heavier with oxygen, laced with the scent of rain and earth. Peacocks crossed my path, water gushed nearby, and for the first time in months, I felt my body exhale.

I had signed up for the Holistic Detox Program, a personalised cleanse that addresses not just the physical but also the mental and emotional layers of wellbeing. The journey began with a consultation with the resident medical team: a mix of integrative doctors, nutritionists and therapists. Together, they created a tailored plan of treatments designed to restore balance through detoxification, movement, and mindfulness. My assigned guide, Elbert, became my anchor through the days that followed, ensuring I moved through the program with ease and intention.
Each morning began with movement: yoga or a nature walk through the lush gardens. By mid-morning, I was in the Alive! Vegan Restaurant, sipping a warm herbal elixir or freshly pressed juice while the scent of lemongrass and basil drifted through the open-air space. Mealtimes were mindful and nourishing. The Farm follows a farm-to-table philosophy, using ingredients grown on-site. Every dish, from the coconut ceviche to the vegan lasagna, felt alive, colourful and clean. I realized how eating slowly and in silence, is its own kind of meditation.

The afternoons were dedicated to treatments. The phrase “all disease begins in the gut” may sound ancient, but at The Farm, it is a philosophy lived daily. I experienced gentle yet deeply effective therapies like Colema, Angel of Water, and Colonic Infusion Therapy, each guided by skilled and compassionate practitioners. The goal was not just to purge toxins, but most importantly, to renew vitality from within. The results were profound: my digestion improved, my mind cleared and my sleep deepened. Cleo, one of the wonderful therapists at The Farm, reminded me that detoxification is only half the process; what matters equally is the replenishment that follows, nourishing the body and mind once the old weight has been released.
Between therapies, I relished the moments of silence in the soft afternoon sun that peeped gently through the leaves of the palm trees. There is a 300-year-old mango tree on the property, and meditating in its shade carries a special energy of deep reverence. Local legend says that those who meditate beneath its branches receive blessings or clarity. As I sat there, watching a white peacock glide nearby, I felt a sense of sacredness and serenity. In a world that constantly seeks your attention, time here, stood still.

Evenings were reserved for sound healing sessions and breathwork circles. As the air cooled, I was led to my spa treatments that felt almost celestial, one evening a body polish, another a deep restorative massage. The therapists here work with intuition; their touch feels attuned not only to muscles but to energy, my favourite being Hilot, the traditional Filipino healing art that involves deep tissue massage with techniques like kneading and gentle strokes to treat muscle pain, stiffness and fatigue. I can’t think of a better way to end the day.
On my final day, I met with Dr. Marian Alonzo, Medical Chief of the Holistic Sanctuary, who spoke of salutogenesis - the creation of health. “Our goal,” she said, “is not only to remove disease but to return you to your natural state of wholeness.” Her words echoed what I had already begun to feel: that true healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken, but clearing what has blocked your natural flow of vitality and peace.
When I left The Farm, I felt steadier and lighter, as if a weight had been lifted. I carried with me an inner spaciousness. Back home, my daily rituals changed. I start mornings with lemon water and silence instead of emails. I read instead of scrolling. I walk barefoot on grass, cook slower, eat mindfully, and listen to my body again.

The Farm at San Benito reminds you that detox is a return to simplicity, balance, and rhythm. In a world obsessed with more, this is a place that gently teaches you the art of less: less noise, less clutter, less resistance. And in that space of less, you find what you’ve been seeking all along: yourself.
